Brother Francis of Assisi
Ages 7 and up
Captivating account of a rich young man who gives up all his worldly possessions to follow Jesus and to make him known to everyone he meets.
One morning during Mass, Francis heard these words of Jesus from the Gospel: "Take no gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts, no bad for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a stall; for the laborer deserves his food". Francis took off this shoes and threw away his walking stick and the cloak he wore to keep warm. He threw away his belt and tied a piece of rope around his rough robe.
Full of joy, he went up to Assisi and sang about the wonderful love of God. He was so happy that he began to dance.
This captiving story of Saint Francis and his companion Saint Clare is beautifully told in Tomie dePaola's simple and powerful style.
