Magnificat - Your Life is Everlasting
ON THE NIGHT OF THE FEAST OF EASTER, a bonfire is lit and blessed in front of the church, a fire from which the celebrant lights the Paschal candle. It will be borne in procession into the church, where total dark- ness gradually gives way to the light of all the candles of the faithful. It is after this procession that the lovely chant of the Exsultet rings out. In memory of the heroic crossing of the Red Sea by the Hebrews, it pro- claims the eruption of light from the shadows, the Resurrection of Christ, the fulfilment of the Scriptures, and the coming of the end times. The text of the Exsultet , in the form of a preface, dates back to Carolingian sacramentaries. MUSICAL PRAYER OF THE HEART EXSULTET In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
