218 Rites for Particular Circumstances Dialogue 264. The celebrant then questions each child using the questions and answers given below. It is permissible for the celebrant to use other words that will allow the children to give such answers as: I want to do the will of God; I want to follow the word of God; I want to be baptized; I want faith; I want to be (become) a friend of Jesus; I want to enter (join) the Christian family. If, however, the number of children is too numerous, the celebrant may question all of them together, draw out answers from some of them, and then ask the others if they agree. Celebrant: N., what do you want to become? Child: A Christian. Celebrant: Why do you want to become a Christian? Child: Because I believe in Christ. Celebrant: What does faith in Christ offer you? Child: Eternal life. The celebrant concludes the dialogue with a brief instruction, adapted to the circumstances and age of the children, and may use these or similar words. As circumstances suggest, the children may repeat these last words of Christ, to show their consent. Since you already believe in Christ and want to be prepared for Baptism, we welcome you with great joy into the Christian family, where you will come to know Christ better day by day. 318 319
