12 The angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was going to be the mother of the Son of God, Jesus, the promised Messiah. When Mary asked how this would come about, the angel said by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
